
Charlotte Roberts is a multi-disciplinary artist, improvisational vocalist, musician, composer, and creator/facilitator of The Musical Body, based in Dja Dja Wurrung country, Macedon Ranges, Victoria. Charlotte began developing and facilitating The Musical Body from 2003; having since worked with a variety of communities including The United Women’s Voices Project of 2019-2020; which was funded by Vic Arts grant. Since 2013 Charlotte has been involved in numerous multi-artform collaborations with dancers, story-tellers and other instrumentalists. Described as the love child of the Mad Hatter and Alice; Charlotte has performed structured improvisational performances in gallery spaces, outdoor settings, Fringe Festivals, La Mama Theatre and unique venues in Australia and overseas; along with supporting the likes of poet Shane L Koyczan at the Forum Theatre and improvising on-stage with Rhiannon (of WeBe3 and Voicestra; Bobby McFerrin), Johnathon Hart Makwaia (Roy Hart Theatre) and the John Reeves Trio. Charlotte’s debut album ‘Stay in Your Power’ was released in May 2018; “a refreshingly unique take on pop music - with each of the tracks driven by mesmerising layers of vocals, it’s an immersive showcase of Charlotte’s versatile voice and distinctive storytelling ability” (Trouble Juice). With, the main title; featuring Charlotte’s experience being a home-birth supporter; “[Stay in your Power is] a poetic slam of vocal gymnastics...a mantra about femininity and power, the gift of life and the strength of family bonds. Tapping into hip-hop, soul and pop while simultaneously rebelling against them all, it's an experimental layering of vocal loops and beat box hooks” (AMRAP).
