Founded in 2019 by vocalist/guitarist Ameya and bassist Julia, with the addition of band members Austin and Sam, Keaper is a Melbourne-based band writing immersive, guitar-driven music and blending it with visual flair. Drawing inspiration from artists like DIIV, The Smashing Pumpkins and The 1975, the band’s songs are recognisable by their pensive lyrics, melodic instrumentation and the introspective atmosphere they create. Doubling as a visual art project, Keaper combines artforms to provide a unique style of escapism reflective of the band’s interest in cinema, illustration and photography. These visual elements are linked to Keaper’s music through a connection to place and emotion.

After virtually releasing two demos from within the confines of global quarantine, Keaper were invited to perform alongside a number of Melbourne artists as part of a live-streamed version of The Boite’s beloved ‘Suitcase’ event. Continuing to make the most of a strange year, Keaper created a music video for “I’ll Find” that was selected by a panel of judges from the likes of MTV and Mushroom Group for Federation Square’s Fed Live Top 10 shortlist. The song became the band’s debut single, described by Homegrown Sounds as an “ethereal” mix of “Alpine, Snakadaktal and DIIV”.
