Merry Christmas are a ten-legged festive wonder tank from Tokyo, Japan. The band blend elements of fuzz folk, math rock and pop into a unique, often raucous collection of songs.

Ben, Matt and Joe-Joe (guitar, drums and bass respectively) were brought together in 2012 through a mutual love of Neutral Milk Hotel and Radiohead, and after recruiting singer/synth player Yuki they began building a cult following on the Tokyo underground scene. Trombonist/glockenspiel player Barihi caught their first show and joined as a full time member soon after. Their first EP, The Flying Trombone Sisters, solidified their fuzz-folk sound and strengthened their fanbase. The band’s influences soon grew to include London art rockers Buttonhead and Japan’s Play New Moments and Oono Yuuki, taking their style into more off-kilter math-rock territory while maintaining the band’s love of melody and pop hooks. The following EPs Rattattattattat and Dark Forest Be Gone saw Merry Christmas experimenting with new musical ideas and subsequently being chosen to play at Nagano prefecture’s renowned Ringo Festival alongside Of Montreal and Taiwan’s Elephant Gym.
