Micayl is a German songwriter, artist and producer. Mirroring Europe’s multiculturalism, Micayl’s work crosses and fuses genres to create an idiosyncratic sound blending alternative R&B, soul, and Nu jazz with an atmospheric mix of organic lo-fi and the soulful side of Hip-Hop.
Music has always been at the epicentre of Micayl's life: The alternative R&B artist grew up listening primarily to jazz, soul, and blues. As the years went by, other companions and guides became involved, molding, and shaping Micayl’s emerging sound. Some of their childhood influences included giants like Ray Charles, Miles Davis, and John Coltrane, who were instrumental in shaping and guiding them toward music. Over time, Micayl's stylistic inspirations became more vigorous and introspective, artists such as Bon Iver as an inspiration to think outside the norm and Frank Ocean as an introduction to the world of concept albums. Today, Micayl is guided by artists who live outside of the binary, whose music resists labels and transcends genre – Arlo Parks, Tom Misch, Jordan Rakei, Leon Bridges. Artists whose music, just like Micayl’s, stands for something on multiple levels.
For the multi-instrumentalist, music is a holistic art form, with detailed attention to the intricacies of their projects reaching far beyond the music itself. It is a multitude of different languages and distinctive forms of artistic expression – ranging from music and poetry over dance and fashion to photography and film – into which Micayl effortlessly translates the stories of their songs. An overall artistic concept in which all visual and sonic elements are intertwined, allowing Micayl to faithfully visualize the auditory, guided by their soulful, virtuous, and soothing sound inviting the listener to dream and drift away.
