The Letter String Quartet is Steph O'Hara, Lizzy Welsh, Biddy Connor and Zoë Barry - an innovative and captivating ensemble who push the sonic possibilities of the string quartet into new realms.

TLSQ are multi-instrumentalists, composers and sound designers who all play, sing and compose for the ensemble. From collaborating with Australian and international composers, poets and visual artists, to generating transcendental improvised performances, TLSQ create music that shimmers with complexity, depth and great beauty.

A highly sought after string quartet, TLSQ were invited to perform with Gang of Youths at the first Australian MTV Unplugged, toured with Laura Jean, recorded with Mick Harvey and presented world premiere commissions by composers Bree van Reyk, Ned Colette, Yana Alana, Wally Gunn and Erik DeLuca.

TLSQ are 2019 Green Room Award nominees for Best Contemporary Sound Performance for TLSQ x ASMR, which premiered at the Festival of Live Art.

TLSQ have presented concert series at Melbourne Recital Centre, Abbotsford Convent, Next Wave, Metropolis New Music Festival, Inland Concert Series, Adelaide Cabaret Festival and regularly perform with The Orbweavers. They have also been invited to present the world premiere of new pieces by winners of the Melbourne Recital Centre's Local Heroes Composer Commission - Alice Humphries (2017) and Andrew Batterham (2018).

TLSQ have recorded with Jen Cloher, Augie March, Alice Humphries, Andrew Batterham and Richard J Frankland.

The quartet are regularly invited to work with innovative creators and festivals - these include Daniel Jenatsch’s video opera A-97 at Next Wave 2016, The 2016 Metropolis New Music Festival, and collaborations with Jida Gulpilil, Passi Jo, Moomba Festival, The Song Room and the City of Yarra. Members of the quartet have performed at Supersense Festival of the Ecstatic with John Cale and Spiritulaized.
