Augie March

Sungenre
Here’s 5 tracks as chosen by drummer Dave Williams from Australian indie pop rock outfit Augie March. The band will be on the road in August in celebration of the 10 year anniversary of their On The Quiet tour.

Troye Sivan – Bloom
I listened to this record a lot when it came out last year. Still do. I saw the “Bloom” clip on late night TV and had a immediate reaction to it. After seeking out the song, I developed an almost daily obsession of listening and trying to pick apart the production. I bought the record when it was released and listened to it top to bottom for months and months. Insanely intricate pop album!

Frank Ocean – Ivy
I still find myself listening to this song and album regularly and discovering new layers. Incredible songs, dazzling and inspired production using all the colours of the music rainbow… lyrics and delivery are spellbinding. Mr. Ocean is an astonishing talent.

Cyanide Thornton – Weight
The song opens with a guitar solo by singer/guitarist Sienna Thornton that builds steadily over a bubbling rhythm section for two minutes before reaching a manic crescendo and then promptly disappears. Into the vacuum floats Sienna’s contralto voice and proceeds to cast a spell for the next four minutes about lost love and jealously. Echoes of The Cowboy Junkies and Mazzy Star but with a little more edge and intensity.

Aldous Harding – The Barrel
Sublime singer/songwriter who continues to raise her own bar. Magnetic performer whose portrayal of the vast array of characters in her songs is as potent as it is unique. Unreal.

Gregor – A Song About Holding Hands
Gregor Kompar is a Melbourne based multi-instrumentalist and produces his records himself in his house. I really enjoy this song about how our hands talk to us if we would only listen! I also love the ‘lead’ bass guitar weaving its way through the song, providing the colour and movement around a programmed drum machine, a repeated chord progression on synthesiser and Gregor’s baritone musings. There ain’t no one like Gregor!
