Song Premiere: The Vacant Smiles – So Tired of Sleeping In

The Vacant Smiles is a four piece garage surf psych band hailing from the suburbs of Melbourne, Australia. Drawing influence from the likes of Ty Segall and The Vines, they’ve been kicking goals in the local scene with the independent release of two albums, Stupid Music (2013) and You’re Not Really Here (2016). Their third album, which was recorded at home and mastered by Mikey Young (Eddy Current Suppression Ring) is on the way. Today we’re pleased to share a taste of what you can expect from it – with the fun, lo-fi single “So Tired of Sleeping In”.

“So Tired is just a pretty straight-up garage song, so I guess we tried to record it in a way that made things a little less predictable,” explains singer and guitarist James Lynch. “The lyrics don’t make heaps of sense, but essentially it’s a bit of a quarter life crisis song, where I’m kind of wondering aloud whether it’s better to clean up my act and get a life, or put that on the backburner and commit to wasting time and having fun. I guess I don’t really have an answer though – both alternatives can be pretty shit in the end.”
