Candy has a propensity for literate lyrics, and an aptitude for catchy, dense songwriting. Juxtaposing bright melodies has become a signature for him and on new single, “Clean”, over a beaming intro, Candy begins, “I can’t see a future here, this world will burn and you’ll be there with your two hands around my throat.”
Written about the Summer bushfires, ‘Clean’ remains a pertinent track during this time of social isolation, and as Candy explains, “‘Clean’ stems from my scared and defeatist mindset.” It certainly feels like a new era for Candy. Where debut LP, Under The Weather and latest release, Everything in Motion, were bedroom produced, youthful and compelling, this upcoming release feels like a total revolution with addition of rising LA producer Matt Neighbour (Matt Corby, The Avalanches, Sky Ferreira) on mixing duties.
