Here’s five tracks as chosen by Spencer Peterson, lead singer of American art punk band Sego, ahead of the release of their debut album Sego Sucks on April 5.

I saw this band open their set playing a song with three words that erupted into a mosh/dance pit when the lead singer appeared in a Medusa/Pharaoh costume in the crowd. At the end of the song he was screaming “You knew what I was when you picked me up!” into all of our faces and promptly exited out the front door and got into a car and drove away. Then they played their next song…

Ty Segall – Every 1’s a Winner
One of the best live shows I’ve ever seen in my life. Commitment. No apologies. It’s rare when I feel like I could handle much more than 45 minutes from even my favourite bands. Having never seen them nor recognising any of the songs (they only play new material), I could’ve watched the set on repeat. They gave no encore.

Shame – Concrete
We played a show with these strapping young fellas in 2016 in Brighton, England right when they were getting going. They played right after us, so I was wrapping cables near the front right side of the stage while they were loading on. They launched into their first song and I noticed that the guy watching next to me in a three piece suit was holding his head and abruptly turned to the girl next to him, planted a big kiss, and crawled onto the stage and started singing. Jaw-dropping set. It’s been good to see those boys subsequently put out a great record and take over the world.

Parquet Courts – Wide Awake
I’ve always felt a kinship with these dudes no matter what direction they decide to take. Never seen them live, but I already know it’d be rad.

Kings of Leon – Trani
Let’s not forget, before “Sex On Fire”, this was one of the most legit rock n roll bands in the world. Listen to the very end or you’re blowing it.
