Here’s 5 tracks as chosen by New York electro pop artist Stella Emmett, ahead of the release of her debut album Admirer on August 23.

“Bags” was the first single off of Clairo’s new album, Immunity. This has basically become the song of my summer, it fits every situation, every vibe. It has that summertime melancholy feeling that I just love.

Sam Smith – How Do You Sleep?
I’ve always really liked Sam Smith – “Not The Only One” and “Latch” are two of my favourite pop songs from the last six years. This song has a chorus that just hits you in the stomach, and the video is addicting to watch. Also what an amazing amazing title.

Mark Ronson – Don’t Leave Me Lonely (feat. YEBBA)
A friend showed me a video of YEBBA performing an original song a few years ago and her voice is just undeniable. To have that kind of range used in the context of a great pop song is such a treat. This chorus is also a gut punch.

Mereba – Black Truck
Just a heartbreakingly hopeful song about resilience and inner strength. This song has moved me to tears a few times. Everyone I show it to becomes obsessed. I love the production here too, spare but so effective. Definitely inspiring.

Charli XCX – Lucky
I’m really into this whole album, Pop 2, but this song kills me. The way her voice is being manipulated, it sounds like she’s screaming through the matrix or something. Charli XCX is also such a student of pop music and this song is certainly in reference to “Lucky” by Britney Spears, which gives the entire track a double meaning for me.
