The Gooch Palms

Sungenre
Here’s five tracks as chosen by Leroy Macqueen from Australian garage pop duo The Gooch Palms, ahead of the release of their third album, III on May 10th.

What can I say, no KKBBQ no Goochies! The first time I heard this I was blown away that something this good could be from now! They gave us a lot of confidence to be in a two-piece and start writing doo-wop-punkish sorta raw music. We have these guys to thank for a lot!

XTC – This Is Pop?
XTC is such a good fucking band! My dad used to concrete with the drummer, Terry Chambers. I love a lot of quirky pop bands but XTC would be my favourite! I always loved having a beer with Terry and hearing all the stories about XTC touring and stuff.

Nobunny – Blow Dumb
Nobunny is a freak and we’re freaks so we were naturally drawn to him. We got to play with him a few times and have since become friends. Cool Goochies fact of the day: Jason, the guitar player, mixed and mastered our first album Novo’s (2013).

Ramones – Sheena Is A Punk Rocker
The motherfucking Ramones. One of the greatest bands of all time. They proved you only need three chords and you can fucking rock hard! They are also style icons. You can’t beat Marshall stacks and leather jackets!

Iggy Pop – I’m Bored
I remember seeing Iggy perform this on Countdown as a young kid and thinking “that’s exactly what I want to do when I grow up”. And I feel I got kinda close (laughs). It has to be one of the greatest live interviews in the history of live interviews.
